State Central Museum of Contemporary History of Russia
One of the largest museums in the country, dedicated to modern history. Its collection includes more than 1.3 million exhibits that reflect historical events of the last 150 years. The museum displays rare photographs, works of painting and decorative art, banners and flags, orders and medals, weapons and household items from the mid-19th century to the present. Among the exhibits are a locomobile, Vladimir Mayakovsky’s cylinder, a cart from the Civil War period, Yuri Gagarin’s overcoat and cap, a model of the first nuclear icebreaker “Lenin” and others.
