The exhibition at the Arkhangelskoye Museum-Reserve presents a collection of Far Eastern porcelain from the collection of the Yusupov princes - a rare example of cultural and diplomatic ties between Russia and Asia. The exhibition includes 87 exhibits, including: Chinese porcelain from the Qing Dynasty; Japanese products of the “old Imari” style; vases depicting dragons (possibly from the imperial workshops); export tureen in the shape of carp, etc. Each item demonstrates a complex system of symbols of Far Eastern art: images of animals, mythical creatures and historical characters carry deep cultural meaning. Next to the display cases there are explanations and interactive elements that help you “read” the encrypted messages of the porcelain. The project emphasizes the aesthetic and historical-diplomatic significance of the collection: some of the items could have come to Russia as diplomatic gifts. The exhibition is designed for multiple visits to gradually comprehend the diversity of images and techniques.
