The image of Moscow in Russian art from the collection of the State Russian Museum
The exhibition consisted of four thematic sections that showed how the city changed from century to century: "Old Moscow". Here are works of art that tell about the pre-revolutionary period in the history of the city. The main place is occupied by a cycle of 15 works by Gerard Delabarte. "Capital". This section contains works devoted to the return of Moscow to the status of a capital. The highlight is the painting by Ilya Repin “The ceremonial meeting of the State Council on May 7, 1901, on the day of the centenary of its establishment.” "New Moscow". Works of art from the 1920s to 2010s are presented here; the block is dedicated to the theme of development and transformation of the metropolis of the 20th–21st centuries. "Muscovites". The section is a unique collection of portraits, where you can see images of famous Muscovites or people who connected their lives with the capital. Among the masterpieces presented at the exhibition are paintings “In Besieged Moscow” by Ilya Repin, “Holy Rus'” by Mikhail Nesterov, icons by Andrei Rublev and works by Ivan Shishkin, Valentin Serov and other masters of Russian painting.
