Under the mask
A large–scale project dedicated to the history of carnival culture and its influence on the art of the XIX-XX centuries. The exhibition covers the period from the 1830s to the 1930s and demonstrates how masquerades have become an integral part of Russian culture, turning from fun into a significant social ritual. The exhibition features 139 works from 67 museum and private collections, including works by Vladimir Makovsky, Sergei Sudeikin, Sergei Vinogradov, Abram Arkhipov and other artists.
