Moscow State Art Gallery of Vasily Nesterenko

On April thirtieth, 2026, in Moscow, on Butyrskaya Street, the new building of the Moscow State Art Gallery of Vasily Nesterenko opened its doors. The gallery, which has existed since 2000 and previously lived in “Chekhov’s House” on Malaya Dmitrovka, has finally found a spacious and modern home. The new four-story building, erected according to an individual project with the direct participation of the artist himself, is designed in a neoclassical style with elements of Art Nouveau and Empire style. Its area exceeds 5.4 thousand square meters, which is 20 times larger than the previous premises. Now the gallery's collection, numbering 87 museum objects, can be presented in its entirety: eight large thematic halls are allocated for permanent exhibitions, and six small halls are intended for temporary exhibitions. The exhibition, according to the author, is dedicated not only to military exploits and religion, but also to all of Russia as a whole, its history and culture. The first hall that opens the exhibition is called “We are Russians, God is with us!” It presents monumental paintings about key events in the country's military history, among which stands out a grandiose painting dedicated to the victory over the Poles in the Time of Troubles. Another hall, “Peace and War,” talks about the heroes of the Great Patriotic War, Syria and a special military operation. A visit to the Vasily Nesterenko gallery is a unique opportunity to experience the work of one of the most outstanding contemporary Russian artists, People's Artist of Russia and Academician of the Russian Academy of Arts.
